Welcome to The Andiron | Seaside Inn & Cabins!

We are 11 one and two room cabins perfectly situated on five acres of meadow and woods on Highway 1 in Little River, California.

Minutes away from everything - beaches, wineries, diving, hikes, Mendocino, breweries, good food - but quiet, relaxing, and fun, our housekeeping cabins and rooms are each entirely unique and reflect our love of everything vintage, salvaged, rehabbed, and recycled.

You'll find fifties fabrics, old Viewmasters, your favorite childhood games and puzzles, badminton, croquet, funky lamps, and so much more. Add super-comfy beds, a sweet hot tub, and weekend happy hours, and you've got a mighty fine getaway. Plus, we think your pets are swell, so bring 'em along (only $20 per pet/night)!

Spring has busted out! We get fuller quicker these days, so don't dilly-dally about booking your spot. Everything is green and pretty and the sunshine and sunsets just look better after a rainy winter, y'know? Plus, our happy hours are still full of melted cheese (vegan yummy stuff too); Soup Saturdays are ON - we're serving spicy black bean soup with or without chorizo this weekend; and, OF COURSE, hikes and strolls and stars in the spring sweater weather up here. Come!

The usual round-up of fun, funky, and fabulous events coming up soon!
  • Drink up! It's festival season, people - and we have two good ones coming up. The Boonville Beer Festival is on May 14. We've never been but the scoop is that it's a wild blast. Bring a designated driver! And if you're more of a wino, people around here swear by the Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival May 20-22. We're practically booked up that weekend so you better act fast.

  • Okay, so we love trains! And we especially love the Skunk Train - the old steam train that goes from the coast to the redwoods and back. Special trains throughout the year - and come June they have this Tracks to Kayaks thing involving, well, kayaks and the train. Basically, you take the train into the redwoods and then you kayak back. The kayak people provide the guides and kayaks, you may want to pack a picnic lunch. Sounds fun, eh?

  • Everyone digs a gift certificate to The Andiron! We make our own gift certificates out of old cookbooks, knitting magazines, and garden guides. They're cool (see a picture here)! And when you give someone a gift certificate to The Andiron, you're cool too. That is how cool works! Best of all, we'll mail it right to your gift-ee OR to you OR we have an email version that you can print out if you like.

You can make your gift certificate for any denomination and/or any kooky combo (like, "one night's stay in the Nature cabin and put the sixties version of The Parent Trap in the cabin along with two bags of popcorn"). And if you're feeling really really super cool, then give the ultimate and most awesome gift: The Andiron Grand Tour - one night in each cabin (all at once or one at a time), including special gifts with each stay and one-of-a-kind, handmade grand tour t-shirts upon completion ($1,500 plus tax).

Ready to earn your spot as the hippest gift giver in your circle? Call us up at (707) 937-1541 or email Scott at Scott@TheAndiron.com - (he'll get back to you right away, promise).

  • Three-ish perfect days ... our guide to the perfect spring getaway at The Andiron.

Start by taking Friday off! Of course! Throw the duffel in the back of the zip car, and hop on 101, way ahead of the weekend traffic.

Before you know it, you'll be turning on to the sweetest road in the world, the amazing Highway 128. Take it slow! The curves are fierce and there are LOTS of critters in the road - deer, wild boar, turkeys and the like. Plenty of critters off the road, too, hanging out at the family farms everywhere you look. Plus, they're always having babies so you'll be sure to see a baby goat hop hop hopping along or a little lamb looking for her mama.

Meander! Check out the Anderson Valley Brewing Company for some disc golf. Enjoy lunch in Boonville. Stop at a few wineries. Lazy Creek. Toulouse. Navarro. Esterlina. Stop for fresh-pressed cider at The Apple Farm just past Philo. You'll reach the heart of the redwood forest before the sun starts to set, and the waning light through the trees will rock your world. You'll exit the forest and hit Highway 1 and boy oh boy oh boy the world just opens up wide and happy for you. You might want to pull over onto a bluff for that giant slice of amazing, btw. Hug your sweetie, and breathe! You're really AWAY now.

A couple more minutes and you're pulling up to The Andiron right in time for happy hour, nice timing. Join us in the Lodge for Fondue Friday - apples, bread, mushrooms, and classic gruyere fondue served up with and cold local beer and wine. Yum. Pick up a game (Mille Bornes, Scrabble, Ticket to Ride) and a movie for later (you should probably watch a locally filmed flick. We're partial to Same Time Next Year. It will make you cry in the good way..."Helloooo, my friend, helllooooo....").

You won't want to leave the fire nor your new friends, but you gotta go grab some dinner. Try the bar at the Little River Inn for perfect made-to-order clam chowder, huge burgers and local gossip with world-famous bartender Sue and the amazing Pastor. Oh, and yeah, the sunset from the bar is divine! Back at The Andiron, finish off a bottle of wine on your deck, neck craned for some serious stargazing. Then, big fluffy towel in tow, it's time for another soak in the hot tub in the woods before pulling on your jams and settling in for that aforementioned movie or game until you drift off to sleep.

Sleep good, cuz Saturday is gonna bust out. Start early - grab some toast with farmer's cheese and local honey in the Lodge and then head north to Fort Bragg for the 10am Skunk Train to nowhere - the magical steam engine will take you deep into the forest with snacks and entertainment and then back again by 2.

Take a quick stroll among the curious little shops of Fort Bragg, and then choose: beer drinking or breath taking? If the former, take the beer tour at North Coast Brewing Company and if the latter, visit the Mendocino Botanical Garden. Enjoy!

Stop in Mendocino on your leisurely drive back south and visit the Visitor Center. No really! It's a really really good visitor center! Go to Mendoza's Harvest Market, and pick up a the perfect meal for dinner. Something to grill, some fresh vegetables, a demi baguette, and a six pack of local beer. You're set.

By the time you get back to The Andiron, you're in time to catch the tail end of happy hour in the Lodge! Pull up a stool at the bar and share some melty cheese and vegetables on your own little raclette grill with a glass of chenin blanc. When you get tired of us, relax on your deck watching the quail race across the meadow and the bunnies munch on the grass until the sun is gone. Cook up that dinner on your barbecue. Linger over your meal. Light a fire. Think about going in the hot tub but find yourself unable to move. Curl up with a book. Sleep.

Sunday! Make your way to the Lodge for just a slice of that delicious toast one more time. Ooh, la! The Sunday New York Times is here, as is the Sunday Chronicle. Don't dawdle, and save room: you're going to Queenie's Roadhouse in Elk for brunch and then taking the long way home down Highway 1. You should probably stop for some fresh oysters in Tomales Bay or Pt. Reyes. Linger. Savor. All that.

And there you are...a perfect fling. Come up soon. We're the getaway you've been waiting for!

Sunset Magazine likes us! From the September 2010 issue:

A RETRO-CHIC HIDEOUT - The Andiron's 1950s cabins are something out of the ordinary along the sleepy rural stretch south of Mendocino. Peek inside and you'll see that the inn's new owners have redecorated each of the 11 redwood rooms with quirky rummage-sale finds. (Our favorite: No. 5, done up in "library chic" and called Read) Half the rooms have kitchenettes and wood-burning stoves; all have decks looking down the grassy hill to a fringe of cypress trees and the ocean beyond.

We are so very grateful for the kind people who have given us amazing and sweet reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. Your reviews mean the world to us! Thank you!
